Welcome to our school
St.Francis School has been providing quality education for over forty years. St.Francis Kindergarten Schools of San Gwann and St.Paul’s Bay have been recently annexed to St.Francis Primary School, Msida. St.Francis Primary School Msida acts as the leading school to ensure coherence, accountability and progress. Our experienced staff of teachers, headed by Sr. Carmen Mizzi, is dedicated to providing every child with the best educational opportunity possible. At present the academic staff is made up of 17 teachers, 5 Kindergarten Assistants and 15 Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).
St.Francis School welcomes boys and girls from the age of three to eleven. These children would have been drawn by ballot at the Curia and therefore we are not limited to a particular catchment area or a particular social group. Rather our children hail from various families with different backgrounds.
At Kindergarten level, our educators strive to socialise the children into the school culture. This is done through various learning activities where teachers encourage the children to ask questions, offering them opportunities to explore and investigate new things within their environment. Furthermore, children are encouraged to express their ideas and emotions and communicate with their teachers and peers.
At St.Francis School Msida, the teachers strive to ensure a smooth transition from kindergarten level to primary level by creating stimulating learning environments in which all students have the opportunity to reach their full learning potential. Furthermore, the teachers ensure the subsequent progress from one year to the next by developing detailed syllabi, resources, and methods guided and inspired by the National Minimum Curriculum.
Up to the Year 2010, children at Year VI Level sat for the Junior Lyceum Entrance Examinations. Boys also sat for the Church Schools Common Entrance Examination while girls were promoted to St. Francis Secondary School in Sliema. As from 2011, the transition to secondary schools will be based on a different approach. All children will sit for the National Benchmarking Exam. The boys will then proceed to another church school in accordance with the new regulations. Girls will go to St.Francis Secondary School as before.
Presently there are 333 children on roll and they are grouped in mixed ability classes. The placing of children in any class is based mainly on the age of the children. Our school policy is based on a quiet yet firm insistence on high standards of behaviour at all times. Students have opportunities for taking initiatives and accepting responsibility for their progress. Our school relationships are characterised by mutual respect, by transmitting a clear message to the students that they are of worth and by a willingness to listen and understand. We try to instill in our students respect for oneself, respect for others and respect for the school, the community and the environment.
